Très belle demeure

I spent a week at L'Age Baston learning the finer points of French country cuisine. Alex and John were the perfect hosts, the staff were helpful and friendly and the entire week was just magic. ||I learned so much, cooked some amazing food, drank excellent local wines and made some wonderful new friends. Oh and I also fell in love with a beautiful shaggy donkey. ||We spent one morning at a French food market and had an afternoon visit to the Cognac region to taste some impressive brandies. It was one of the best weeks I have ever spent and I would return in a heartbeat.

We have been here four years running now and look forward to returning next year. I am repeating my self when I say about the beautifully furnished rooms (double and single), the fantastic food, picturesque surroundings and great people making your holiday a memorable one. The tuition is of high standard on the courses (we do painting) or you can go untutored painting some weeks. All mealsincluded, ample free parking, trips to the local market or chateau (worth seeing) at no extra cost. Transfers to accommodation and a pool. All topped by lots of conversation and laughter. Having said tat there are plenty of places ther for peace and quiet. We love it

Three really enjoyable holidays have been spent at Chateau L,age Baston, The ability to choose walking and painting holidays as a couple is areal bonus, walkers return to join the painters each day for a lovely lunch. More walking and painting in the afternoon if you wish or just relax by the pool or in the garden. A really great holiday.

We love L'Age. If you need to recharge your batteries and end your really feeling as if you have had a holiday this is the place to go. There is a great range of courses - between my wife and I we have done walking, watercolour painting, French country cooking and I even did one just lazing around. Food and drink wonderful. Hosts who will become friends. Incredible!

I fell in love wth the L'Age Baston 'experience' the first time I visited in 2016 to learn more about art from my teacher Jenny Halstead, who is one of the great tutors who comes to the chateau through the May-October season. The comfort and peace, the food and drink you are plied with, the lovely people you meet and who look after you, all make the holiday with learning thrown in for good measure one of the best! And don't forget the sheep, giant donkeys, cats, and walnuts!! I keep coming back for more!

This was an all inclusive painting holiday and although the meals at the start of the week were very good, the portion sizes decreased as the week progressed. Lunch and dinner was a set menu and no alternative choice offered...Breakfast was very uninspiring. Lovely modern bathroom but the towels were not replaced all week and I had to ask for a clean towel after 3days of use, also no toiletries were surplied only a bar of soap.. Only one half daytrip to a market, for a few hours and lift into the local village another afternoon, was on offer. As the weather was not so good I never got to use the outdoor pool so I felt rather disappointed overall.

A wonderful experience - either to learn to paint or just relax. The chateau and it’s grounds absolutely gorgeous. Marvellous food shared with the guests - full of fun and laughter! Oh and not forgetting the swimming pool to relax by!
